Website Designer Cambridge – From Your Website to Every Path Leading to It

If you're looking for a website designer in Cambridgeshire, you might expect the conversation to start with pages, layouts and what you'd like your website to look like.

That's not where I start - I start with your story.

What does your business do? Why did you start it? What makes you different? Who benefits from what you offer? Why should somebody choose you rather than another business doing something similar?

Before I can build a website that customers understand — or help Google understand what your business should appear for — I need to understand your business and YOU first.

I'm Sarah, founder of Simple Website Development & Support. I am a Squarespace website designer and Small Business Visibility Consultant based in Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, working with small businesses locally and across the UK.

I build websites, but the website is only one part of what I do.

Your website is the house. I can help you with every path leading to it.

Your Website Starts With Your Story

Most small business owners don't arrive with a finished brand package, professionally written website copy and a folder containing everything a website designer needs.

And I don't expect them to.

You might have a business plan and a logo. No logo, no problem, I can help you create one. You might have some photographs, a Facebook page and lots of ideas. You might simply know what you want your business to feel like without having any idea how to translate that into a website.

That's where we start. Your vision, how your business feels, all the ideas that may have been floating in your head for years about how you wanted your business to look.

Bring me your business, your story and your ideas and we’ll work out the rest together – the collaborative approach behind my small business website design.

I want to understand your story, your values, your USP, your customers and the problem your business solves for them, from there, we can develop the identity around it.

That might mean refining or creating a logo, developing a colour palette and fonts, creating bespoke images and graphics, helping write the words, deciding how the pages should flow and creating a consistent visual identity that customers begin to recognise.

I don't have a standard website template that every business gets squeezed into.

Your business shouldn't look like mine, and it shouldn't look like my last client's either.

It should look like your vision.

I Design the Customer Journey, Not Just the Pages

A beautiful website isn't enough.

When somebody arrives on your website, they're trying to work something out.

Am I in the right place?

Can this business help me?

Do I trust them?

What does this cost?

What should I do next?

Good website design should make those decisions easier.

That's why I think about the journey somebody takes through a website rather than treating it as a collection of individual pages.

The opening needs to remove uncertainty. Services need to be easy to find. The business story and reviews help build trust. Helpful content can answer questions. Calls to action should appear when somebody is ready to take the next step.

Eventually, the visitor reaches the point where contacting the business feels natural.

That's the journey I'm designing.

Understanding creates clarity. Clarity creates confidence. Confidence makes it easier for somebody to enquire.

I Build for Customers — and for Google

There's another visitor to your website that we can't see - Google.

Google also needs to work out what your business does, where it operates, which services it provides and which searches the website might be relevant to.

That's why SEO isn't something I bolt onto a website when the design is finished.

It's considered throughout the build and I normally include extended SEO as part of your package, if you would like me to.

Website structure, page subjects, headings, wording, internal links, image optimisation, filenames, metadata, structured schema and technical foundations all contribute to helping search engines interpret a website.

After launch, I use tools such as Google Search Console and Google Analytics to see what actually happens: which searches generate impressions, where pages are appearing, what people click and how Google rankings develop.

That data matters to me because I don't want to guess whether a website is being understood.

I want evidence of your users journey through your website and data to understand what Google understands about your business and your USP, that is why after we launch your website I offer free Website Visibility Checks at Month 1, 3 and 6.

When I review your business as part of my Business Visibility Consultancy I will look at your data and give you facts about how customers are using your website and what Google understands.

Your website is the house, social media and other channels help people discover you, but your website is where they choose to stay, it is the destination

Your Website Is the House. How Are People Finding It?

A website can be fantastic and still be difficult to find. That's because customers don't all arrive in the same way.

One person might search Google. Another might discover you through your Google Business Profile.

Someone else sees a Facebook post. Another finds your business in a Facebook group.

They might discover a blog answering a question they've searched for, see a business directory listing, read a review, receive a recommendation or find one of your social media profiles. Eventually, many of those journeys lead to the same place YOUR WEBSITE.

Sarah Morgan, Squarespace website designer and Small Business Visibility Consultant based in Cambridgeshire.

That's why I don't believe website design should be considered completely separately from online visibility.

Your Google Business Profile, social media, business listings, reviews, blogs, website and branding should reinforce one another.

A potential customer shouldn't see one version of your business on Facebook, another on Google and something completely different when they reach your website.

Everything should tell the same story.

Google benefits from that consistency too.

Business Visibility Consultancy – If You Want Me Beside You After Launch

Not every client needs ongoing support.

Once your website is complete, it's yours.

You aren't tied to me with an ongoing website management contract simply because I designed it. Your ongoing platform cost is your Squarespace subscription, and you can manage your website yourself if that's what you want, but some business owners don't want the support to stop at the website.

That's where my Business Visibility Consultancy comes in. I can help you understand what is happening across the wider online presence and what to work on next.

That might involve your website and SEO, Google Business Profile, Google rankings and Search Console data, business listings, blogs, Facebook and other social media, content, branding or simply working out why customers aren't finding or engaging with the business in the way you expected.

I don't believe every business needs to be everywhere - I believe you need to understand where your customers are, how they're finding you and whether the paths you're creating are actually leading somewhere useful.

Sometimes the answer is the website.

Sometimes it's Google.

Sometimes it's social media.

Sometimes several small things aren't connecting properly.

My job is to help you see the whole picture.

Social Media Shouldn't Live in a Separate Box

I see this surprisingly often.

A business has a website.

It has Facebook.

It has a Google Business Profile.

Perhaps Instagram too.

But each one is being treated as a completely separate job.

I look at them as connected parts of the same customer journey.

Social media can introduce the person behind the business, answer questions, demonstrate expertise, build familiarity and give people a reason to visit the website.

Your website can then provide the depth that a social post can't, so ensure that social media is linking to it.

I Don't Want to Keep What I Know Behind a Paywall

There's another part of Simple Website Development & Support that's very important to me.

Education.

I don't think understanding your own business visibility should depend on paying a consultant every time you have a question. That's why I create free blogs, practical guides and Free Business Tools for small business owners.

I explain website design, SEO, Google Business Profiles, online visibility, branding and other subjects in plain English so business owners can learn and make informed decisions themselves.

I also teach face to face, coach business owners through decisions and spend a lot of my client time explaining why we're doing something rather than simply doing it behind the scenes.

Some people will use those resources and never pay me anything and that is exactly why I created them, as I believe you should have choices.

Some clients I work through it with them, and that is where my paid support comes in.

I don't want you dependent on me. I want you to understand your business better because we've worked together.

Built by Someone Who Has Actually Run Small Businesses

I didn't learn all of this by sitting in an agency designing websites for other people - I learned by running businesses myself.

I've spent years dealing with the same things other small business owners deal with: building a recognisable brand, creating logos and colour palettes, finding customers, building trust, creating content, managing websites, figuring out social media, understanding Google, testing what generates enquiries and deciding where limited time and money are best spent.

That's why I tend to look at a website through the eyes of a business owner first - I'm interested in what happens after somebody sees it.

Does the customer understand you?

Does Google understand you?

Can somebody find the information they need?

Does the business feel trustworthy?

Are the different parts of the online presence reinforcing each other?

And ultimately: Does this help the business move forward?

Why Choose a Website Designer in Cambridgeshire Who Looks Beyond the Website?

Your website doesn't exist in isolation - It sits in the middle of your business identity, Google presence, social media, reviews, content, business listings and all the other places somebody might encounter you.

So when I design a website, I'm thinking about more than how it looks on launch day.

I'm thinking about the story it tells.

The customer journey.

The brand people recognise.

The words Google interprets.

The searches you want to be relevant for.

The paths customers take to reach you, and what you'll need once the website is live.

That's my approach to website design in Cambridgeshire.

I don't just build you a Squarespace website and disappear.

I help you turn what you know about your business into something your customers can see, understand and trust — and something Google has the information it needs to understand too.

Then, if you want me there afterwards, I can help you understand what happens next.

If you want me to be a part of your whole journey, I can be there - advising, doing, teaching, sharing knowledge, reviewing your data and cheering you on!

Your story becomes your identity.

Your identity becomes your website.

Your website becomes the destination.

And everything else helps the right people find their way to it.

Want to Start With a Conversation?

If you're planning a new website, you don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want.

You don't need the perfect wording.

You don't need all the photographs.

You definitely don't need to understand SEO - That's my job.

Bring me your business, your story and your ideas.

We'll work out the rest together.
