I Don't Just Build Websites. I Help Businesses Build Businesses That People Understand.
If you're looking for a Squarespace website designer, you're probably comparing websites, reading reviews and wondering who feels like the right fit for your business.
Most website designers will tell you what they build. I wanted to explain something different.
What does it actually feel like to work with me?
Over the past year I've realised that my clients rarely talk about Squarespace. They don't usually talk about SEO. They don't talk about schema or image optimisation. Instead, they say things like: "Sarah really understood my business needs." - "The whole process was straightforward and stress-free." - "She explained everything clearly." - "She goes above and beyond."
Those comments made me realise something. People aren't just choosing me because I'm a Squarespace website designer. They're choosing an experience.
This article explains what that experience looks like, why every project is different, and why I believe understanding a business is far more important than simply building a beautiful website.
I Start With People, Not Pages
People often assume a Website Designer starts with a vision. "This is what your website is going to look like."
I don't start there!
I start with curiosity. I ask questions. I listen. I encourage people to share the things that matter to them.
Sometimes that's photographs. Sometimes favourite colours. Sometimes a quote from a book. Sometimes something they've found on a walk. Sometimes it's simply a conversation over a cup of tea.
Most clients think they're gathering content for a website.
What they're actually doing is helping me understand the person behind the business.
That's why every website I build looks different.
I'm not trying to make businesses fit my style. I'm helping each business discover its own.
Before I design a website, I help people discover what they actually want to say.
Every Website Starts Before I Open My Laptop
People often imagine a Squarespace website designer opens their laptop on day one and starts building pages.
I don't - Every website I build starts much earlier, before I think about layouts or imagery.
I want to understand the foundations of the business.
What is your mission?
What are your values?
What makes you different?
Who do you help?
How do you want people to feel?
Once we understand those things, we create the colour palette, typography and visual identity that will run through everything we build.
That identity doesn't just shape your website. It influences your graphics, Google Business Profile, blogs, social media and future marketing, helping customers and Google recognise your business wherever they find it. By the time I open Squarespace, we're not guessing. We're building on solid foundations.

I Don't Just Build Websites.
I Build Client Journeys.
A website isn't simply a collection of pages.
It's a series of moments that gradually help someone understand your business.
The order matters - the structure creates the experience.
That's why I often say I don't just design websites. I design the journey people take through them.
Explained further below ↓
Welcome
HOME PAGE STRUCTURE:
What visitors need here
When someone lands on a website, they quickly want to know:
Who the business is
What it does
Where it operates
Whether they're in the right place
Why I designed it this way
The opening section isn't there to tell visitors everything.
Its purpose is to remove uncertainty and create confidence. Once visitors understand they're in the right place, they're much more likely to continue exploring the website.

Exploring Services
HOME PAGE STRUCTURE:
What visitors need here
Now that visitors understand the business, they naturally begin asking:
"Can you help me?"
People arrive with different needs, so they should be able to find the information they're looking for quickly.
Why I designed it this way
Rather than presenting long blocks of text, I created clear visual signposts that guide visitors towards the service most relevant to them.
This makes the website feel simple, organised and easy to navigate.

Building Trust
STRUCTURE:
What visitors need here
Once people know the business can help them, the next question is usually:
"Why should I choose you?"
Why I designed it this way
Trust isn't created by making bold claims.
Instead, this section explains the business story, values and approach using honest messaging, simple benefits and supporting visuals.
The aim is to help visitors feel they're dealing with genuine people before they ever make contact.

Helpful Advice & FAQs
STRUCTURE:
What visitors need here
Before contacting a business, many people still have questions.
Some prefer to read helpful advice, while others simply want quick answers to common concerns.
Why I designed it this way
These two sections work together.
The blog demonstrates expertise by answering real questions people ask every day, while the FAQs remove common doubts that might otherwise stop someone getting in touch.
Together they help visitors feel informed, reassured and confident before making a decision.

Getting in Touch
STRUCTURE:
What visitors need here
By this stage, visitors understand the business, know how it can help and feel confident in what they've seen.
Now they simply need an easy way to make contact.
Why I designed it this way
Notice that the contact options don't appear immediately at the top of the page.
Instead, the website first explains the business, builds trust and answers questions.
By the time visitors reach the footer, they're not being sold to—they're simply choosing the contact method that's most convenient for them.
Simon wanted a professional website that customers could immediately understand.
As the project evolved, we created much more than that.
The branding we created together now runs consistently across his website, vehicle graphics, marketing materials and online presence, giving customers the same clear message wherever they discover the business.
The website was top of Google for relevant searches in his area, along with his brand Thrifty Mobility within a week!
You're Not Just Paying For A Squarespace Website
Helena thought she was paying for a Squarespace Website for Helrica Massage Clinic.
What we actually created was a complete online identity.
Together we developed a colour palette, bespoke imagery, page layouts, customer journeys, graphics, service pages, branding and content that reflected Helena's personality.
Every decision was made to help visitors understand not only what Helrica Massage Clinic offers, but who Helena is and how she helps people feel.
The website became far more than a collection of pages. It became the foundation for everything Helrica now shares online.
Want to See More?
These are just a few examples of very different projects.
If you'd like to explore more websites I've created, together with the stories behind them, visit my Case Studies page.
Most people think they're paying me to build a website. The website is only one part of what we create together.
Every project you've seen on this page involved far more than designing pages.
Together we developed the branding, imagery, customer journey, wording, SEO, metadata, structured schema, Google Business Profile, social media direction, including posts and reels and strategy, and the foundations that help customers and search engines understand the business.
I often describe it like this.
Your website is your house.
But a beautiful house isn't much use if nobody knows it's there.
That's why I spend just as much time helping Google, AI tools and potential customers find your business as I do designing the website itself.
When everything works together, your website stops being an isolated project.
It becomes the centre of your online presence.
Because building a website is only the beginning.
Helping people find and understand it is where the real work begins. That's why my support doesn't stop on launch day. I continue helping businesses improve their visibility, strengthen their online presence, and make sure everything works together.
If you've read this far, you'll probably understand why I don't simply describe myself as a Squarespace website designer.
Of course, I design Squarespace websites, and I love doing it.
What really excites me is helping small business owners build something much bigger: an online presence that reflects who they are, helps customers understand them and gives Google the confidence to recommend them.
Because the website is never the finish line.
It's the foundation everything else is built on!
Pretty isn't the goal. Rankings aren't even the goal. Understanding is the goal.
